From ArtSpot to Line Juhl Hansen STUDIO

Wayfinding, decoration and place branding

What happened to ArtSpot?

For many years, I was a founding partner of ArtSpot - a recognized name in wayfinding, decoration and place branding. As the creative, executive driving force behind ArtSpot, it was my responsibility to develop the visual concepts and solutions that helped companies and public institutions create inspiring and functional environments.

But even the best collaborations have an expiration date. We had a clear division of roles in ArtSpot, which meant that I took care of the creative development, while my then partner handled customer contact, among other things. Although we created many fantastic projects together, over time I felt a need to be in direct dialogue with the customers and users . To understand and develop their visions and work more closely with them throughout the process. I therefore left ArtSpot and established Line Juhl Hansen STUDIO.

Line Juhl Hansen STUDIO:

A new approach to wayfinding and decoration

The majority of my work is still the same: Creating places that are experienced intuitively and visually meaningful. But at Line Juhl Hansen STUDIO, customers get direct access to the person who creates their wayfinding, decoration and place branding. No expensive middlemen - I'm involved from the first idea to the finished product. And that provides a much better, safer and more meaningful experience for everyone.

Why is it important? Because wayfinding and visual identity are not just something you implement – they are something that has to live and function in practice. When I meet my clients face to face, I can better understand their needs, the physical context and the people who will navigate the space. This makes my solutions more efficient, more aesthetic and – most importantly – more user-friendly.

Meaningful meeting with customers

Meeting the clients directly has given my work a new dimension. At ArtSpot, I was primarily concerned with the creative process behind the scenes, but today I experience how much value it adds when I take control myself from the first meeting to the finished project. It makes a difference when I can listen to the clients' wishes, read the space with my own eyes and help shape solutions that not only work on paper, but in reality.

This personal contact also means that the projects are easier to develop. I can adjust and refine along the way, ensure that the small details are just right, and create solutions that feel right – both for the client and for me. It makes sense. For the outcome of the project, and for the process that leads us there.

What is wayfinding – and why is it so important?

Wayfinding is about guiding people through physical spaces in an intuitive and logical way. It is about much more than just signs – it is a holistic experience where architecture, graphics and communication merge.

Good wayfinding ensures that people can easily navigate complex environments such as hospitals, airports, parking garages, businesses, educational institutions and cultural centers. It reduces confusion, creates safety, minimizes wasted time and improves the overall experience of a place.

At Line Juhl Hansen STUDIO I work with:

  • Strategic signage that shows the way and supports the visual identity of the place.

  • Graphic elements, patterns and colors that guide and create recognition.

  • Functional solutions that emphasize the building's architecture and distinctive character

Decoration: Design that creates identity

Decoration is an important part of my work, because when art and architecture meet, we create living environments. I design site-specific decorations that support both function and aesthetics – always with an understanding of the space, the materials and the people who move within it.

Decoration can be a strong co-narrator in a building's or story's history, and I consciously work with:

  • Colors that support mood and atmosphere

  • Textures and materials that interact with the architecture

  • Design that creates dialogue between art and surroundings

  • Site-specific solutions that respect and enhance the context

Place branding: Make a place special

Place branding is about creating a unique identity for a physical place. It can be a city, a business, a school, or a public space. A strong visual identity makes the place more memorable and meaningful to both users and visitors.

My work with place branding includes:

  • Color and material choices that support the identity of the place

  • Visual concepts that create a common thread through architecture and design

  • Decoration that tells a story and adds value to the place

From idea to finished project – my process

When I develop solutions, I follow a structured process that ensures quality and common thread in all elements:

  1. Initial dialogue: I meet the customer and get to know their needs, vision and challenges.

  2. Analysis and research: I study the site's architecture, flow and usage patterns.

  3. Design development: I sketch concepts and visualize solutions.

  4. Implementation: Once the design is approved, I take care of production and implementation.

  5. Evaluation: I ensure that the solution works in practice and adjust if necessary.
